2021 touch of class within the French wine: CHATEAU SALVAGNAC

By | January 19, 2021

France is the 2nd largest wine producing country in the world behind Italy but the 3rd largest in terms of surface area of vines behind Spain and China. France is the most emblematic country for prestige wines and remains the world’s No. 1 exporter. France: the country of Red Gold.

France is not the biggest exporter in volume but in value. This shows the quality of the wines recognized worldwide.

Château Salvagnac – Extrait 1520

Worldwide wine consumption is on the rise. The biggest importers in value are the USA, China and the United Kingdom (before the crisis of 2020). French wine is synonymous with quality, all over the world, with nuggets on terroirs still unknown. French wines are still the most present on the ultra premium and Iconic market.

Among all the French production regions, Languedoc is undoubtedly the region of the greatest terroirs of tomorrow. Climate change further strengthens this situation.

Languedoc is the oldest wine region in France and has more than fifty appellations with great disparities.

The greatest terroirs of the Languedoc are located on the Terrasses du Larzac, the Grès de Montpellier, the Terroirs of Aniane, the Terroirs of Lodève, the Terroirs of Gignac, the Pic Saint Loup, Minervois La Livinière, the Great Terroirs of Corbières Boutenac, the Aspres, the Terroirs of the Agly Valley and Limoux. Among these it is necessary to know how to extract the good grain from the ryegrass. But it is sure that there are a dozen exceptional properties in these exceptional terroirs.

The terroirs of Corbières Boutenac are certainly the most interesting with both finesse and elegance worthy of the greatest vintages. Only certain micro-terroirs are among the greatest.

Château Salvagnac is the most interesting and innovative of these terroirs of Corbières-Boutenac. It has been able to extract the best quality from Mourvèdre and ages its wines in its cellars before marketing them.

The vineyard of Chateau Salvagnac is located on a mosaic of different terroirs of clay and limestone (rolled pebbles, light schist, and red earth) at an altitude of about 170 meters which guarantees cool nights and allows the grapes a long and delicate maturity. The marine winds allow an always important hygrometry in order to allow the Mourvèdre to come to its full maturity and the North and West winds guarantee a beautiful protection against the diseases of the vine.

These vines have existed since antiquity and have been cultivated for a very long time. The association of this exceptional terroir and this king grape variety (Mourvèdre) with both traditional and modern winemaking and maturing techniques has allowed Pierre Olivier JOFFARD to produce a totally exceptional wine: these are the cuvées called Extracts and grouped together in a Collection.

The quantity of wine produced is highly controlled to guarantee exceptional quality.  The prices are those of an exceptional wine and are also sold on old vintages ready to drink.

CHATEAU SALVAGNAC’s new projects are to conquer new export markets with quantities of wine quotaed by country. A little later in 2021/2022, it is planned to produce a more affordable wine, sold in recent vintages with an exceptional quality/price ratio. These wines will be sold under the JARDINS DE SALVAGNAC label. This is an exclusivity that we would like to present soon at future shows when those are finally possible. The sale will always be made on allocations and reservations to preserve the quality of our distribution network and to perpetuate the almost friendly relationship with our importers and distributors.
